When a season of high expectations started for Minnesota, a mid-September series at Target Field between the Twins and the visiting Detroit Tigers was expected to be a fight for postseason position.Playoffs are still in the picture for Detroit. But the optimism created by the Twins 83-79 record in 2015 ended quickly and has led to another long summer as Minnesota begins its final homestand of the season. The Twins send left-hander Hector Santiago (12-8, 4.65 ERA) to the mound to start a three-game series against Detroit on Tuesday. The Tigers counter with left-hander Matt Boyd (5-4, 4.43).While Minnesota (55-95) tries to avoid 100 losses for the first time since losing 102 games in 1982, Detroit is challenging for a playoff spot. The Tigers (79-70) snapped a three-game losing streak with a 9-5 win at Cleveland on Sunday. They sit 2 1/2 games behind Toronto and Baltimore for the final wild-card spot in the American League. We had to win, Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said after Sundays win. We feel like weve got to win every single day the rest of the way. If we do, well be in great shape. If we dont, were going to need some help.Playing the Twins has been quite a help. The teams split the four-game series in Detroit last week -- Minnesotas only two wins on a seven-game road trip -- but the Tigers have owned the season series with 12 wins in 16 games.Boyd lost one of those games to the Twins last week, giving up seven runs and eight hits in just 3 2/3 innings. Boyd told MLB.com hes made some adjustments before Tuesdays start. Not a whole lot of tweaking, more just refining, Boyd told MLB.com. Sometimes theres just one or two little things that can take you out of your delivery. That being said, you have to be better in the moment to figure out a way to get it done with that. The Twins offense, in particular second baseman Brian Dozier, is still giving fans reason to watch as another frustrating season concludes. Minnesota is one loss shy of the 96 it finished with in 2012 and 2013. In 2011, the team lost 99 games.Dozier is doing things not seen in Minnesota since the days of Hall of Fame slugger Harmon Killebrew, though. Dozier has a 22-game hitting streak and would set the AL record for home runs by a second baseman with his next homer while playing the position.Dozier has 41 home runs -- the only Twins player besides Killebrew to reach the mark -- and 39 of the homers have come while playing second base.(Dozier has) put together a phenomenal run here in the last 3 1/2 months, Minnesota manager Paul Molitor told MLB.com. And hes putting up historical numbers at his position. The hitting streak speaks to a little bit more of the consistency of his at-bats. Hes doing his job. Hes a catalyst for our offense. At the end of the year, youre going to look at the body of his work and its going to be pretty impressive.Dozier was 7-for-15 with two homers and five RBI during the series in Detroit last week and had two hits in two at-bats against Boyd. But the losses have worn on Dozier, even as his personal achievements have piled up.It doesnt really sit very well, I can tell you that, Dozier told MLB.com of his hitting streak. It is what it is. I couldnt care less, to be honest with you. We didnt get enough of them today. So thats pretty much it.Detroit, which is 6-0 at Target Field this season, isnt sure if it will have its second baseman. Ian Kinsler was hit in the head by a pitch from Clevelands Trevor Bauer on Sunday and was showing symptoms of a concussion following the game.Santiago has settled in after some initial struggles when he was acquired by Minnesota from the Los Angeles Angels at the trade deadline. Santiago has allowed five runs total over his last four starts. He beat Detroit with 5 2/3 innings with one run allowed last week. China Wholesale Jerseys . Olli Jokinen, Mark Scheifele, and Bryan Little each had a goal and an assist as Winnipeg won 5-2, handing Calgary its record-setting seventh consecutive loss on home ice. Authentic Jerseys Cheap . Ibaka equaled a career high with 20 rebounds, adding four blocked shots and 15 points as the Thunder smothered the Milwaukee Bucks offence in a 92-79 victory Saturday night. http://www.chinawholesalecheapjerseysnfl.com/ . The players spoke Jan. 13 during a Major League Baseball Players Association conference call after Rodriguez sued the union and Major League Baseball to overturn an arbitrators decision suspending him for the 2014 season and post-season. Cheap Philadelphia Eagles Jerseys . Arsenal failed to take full advantage of its main rivals stumbles on Saturday as substitute Gerard Deulofeu levelled with a hard shot from a tight angle in the 84th minute to give Everton a deserved point. Ahead of a crucial fortnight that will see them play against Napoli in the Champions League, Manchester City and Chelsea, Arsenal leads by five points ahead of Liverpool and Chelsea. Cheap NFL Jerseys China . Varlamov made 33 saves and Ryan OReilly had a goal and scored in the shootout as the Avalanche beat the New Jersey Devils 2-1 on Thursday night. MIAMI -- The thoughts running through?Dee Gordons head after his first home run of the season ranged from hurried to confusion Monday night. The Miami Marlins?second baseman created one of the memorable sports moments of 2016 as he fought back tears on his way to home plate. It seemed like it took forever, Gordon said of rounding the bases. I was just trying to go back to my teammates as fast as possible, and I couldnt get there. I was just wondering why [Jose Fernandez] wasnt on the top of the steps cheering for me.This wasnt just any at-bat for Gordon. This was the first plate appearance for the Marlins organization after the passing of Fernandez, the superstar pitcher who died Sunday in a boating accident. That was something Gordon took very seriously. The left-handed Gordon came up with a plan to step to the plate and take a pitch right-handed while wearing a helmet in his size with Fernandezs No. 16 on it. Gordon then switched helmets and went to his usual left-handed stance, and his first swing was a monster shot to right field off New York Mets pitcher Bartolo Colon. That?sparked the Marlins to a 7-3 win.Gordon said hitting a home run -- his first of the season -- never crossed his mind. But what made Gordons leadoff home run even more miraculous is the fact that hes far from a power hitter. It took Gordon 304 at-bats this season to hit his first one out of the ballpark. For his career, Gordon is averaging one home run every 239.2 at-bats. But there was something special about this moment for Gordon on a night dedicated to Fernandez. There havent been many smiles from the Marlins the past two days. But Gordon was able to share a rare smile after his homer wwith teammate Giancarlo Stanton, who usually is the Marlins player delivering long-distance bombs.ddddddddddddPure emotion -- theres no other way it could be scripted, Stanton said of Gordons homer. Theres no other way that, unless youre in a movie rewriting everything that just happened tonight, I couldnt believe it. I just put my hands up and celebrated. It was a banner night overall for Gordon, who went 4-for-5 with a homer, two RBIs and a stolen base. Gordon had an RIP shirt made in honor of Fernandez and wore it under his jersey, which was another way for Gordon to keep Fernandez close during the game.It was only right for me to put it on, Gordon said. I know I wasnt supposed to wear it for batting practice, but thats a fine Im willing to take.Marlins president David Samson said before the game that the entire locker room will struggle to reset their equilibrium after Fernandezs death. Mondays win over the Mets was a small step in what will be a long healing process.Led by Gordons homer, Mondays performance was a fitting way for Marlins players to offer a tribute to their teammate who is gone way too soon. This might be the final time you see any Marlins player wear Fernandezs No. 16, especially if the boss -- owner Jeffrey Loria -- has his say.Nobody is going to wear [No. 16] -- I can tell you that now, Loria said. Nobody will wear that number again. If this was the last time we see a No. 16 jersey on the field for the Marlins, Gordon and the rest of Fernandezs teammates made sure it was represented in the best light possible.
