The Minnesota Lynx continue their quest for a second consecutive WNBA championship on Friday when they play host to the Phoenix Mercury in Game 2 of their semifinal series at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn.Top-seeded Minnesota rolled to a 113-95 victory over eighth-seeded Phoenix in the series opener on Wednesday. The Lynx can take a commanding lead in the best-of-five series with another win in Game 2 before the set moves to Phoenix for Game 3 and, if necessary, Game 4.The Lynx earned a double-bye under the WNBAs new playoff format and had not played since concluding the regular season Sept. 17, but they looked sharp in the series opener against Phoenix. Minnesota started the second quarter with a 19-4 run and went on to set a WNBA record for more points scored in regulation in a playoff game. The Lynx shot a franchise-playoff record 63.9 percent, made 6 of 12 from 3-point range and amassed a 38-20 rebounding advantage. Maya Moore scored 31 points on 12-of-19 shooting to lead six players who scored in double figures for Minnesota. Lindsay Whalen recorded 19 points and seven assists while Sylvia Fowles had 16 points and 10 rebounds. They pretty much dominated us in every facet of the game, Mercury star Diana Taurasi said.Taurasi scored 25 points for Phoenix, which upset Indiana and New York in the first two rounds of the playoffs. Brittney Griner scored 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting but grabbed only two rebounds. The Mercury shot 53.5 percent from the field and made 8 of 14 from beyond the arc.Neither coach was really happy with the defensive effort, Minnesota head coach Cheryl Reeve said. No question that well both be hard at work improving that for the second 40 minutes that we play. I was obviously pleased with our offense. Both teams could be short-handed at the center position. Reeve said backup Janel McCarville was unavailable in Game 1 because of back spasms. Phoenix backup Kelsey Bone left the game in the fourth quarter with an apparent injury to her left elbow. Santi Cazorla Arsenal Jersey . LOUIS -- The New Orleans Saints looked like a team playing out the string. Jeff Reine-Adelaide Arsenal Jersey . -- Aldon Smith believes he is on the path to being sober for good. . Datsyuk will miss Tuesdays game against New Jersey and could be sidelined longer, while Cleary will likely miss at least the next three games. Its been an injury-plagued season for Datsyuk, who has suited up for just 39 games. Calum Chambers Arsenal Jersey . Clarkson had been dealing with an elbow injury in early January and will be out of action for at least one week. He has three goals and five assists through 36 games with the Leafs this season. Lucas Perez Arsenal Jersey . They reached the 100-point plateau for the fourth time in five games, bested the visiting Trail Blazers by 34 in the paint and scored 19 of the final 25 points in regulation. DETROIT -- The Detroit Red Wings and Winnipeg Jets are coming off of overtime losses of the same score when they play Friday at Joe Louis Arena.Detroit (6-4-1) lost 4-3 in Philadelphia on Wednesday night and Winnipeg (4-6-1) dropped a 4-3 decision at Washington on Thursday night. The Red Wings, who have lost three straight after a six-game winning streak, blew 2-0 and 3-2 leads against the Flyers. It wasnt a perfect 60 minutes, but I thought we had enough good stuff out there to win, Detroit captain and forward Henrik Zetterberg said. The Red Wings took a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals 26 seconds apart by forwards Dylan Larkin and Andreas Athanasiou .Chris Vandevelde scored in the second period and Roman Lyubimov tied it early in the third the third.Zetterbergs goal 8:18 into the third period have Detroit a 3-2 lead. But Mark Streit tied the game 3-3 with 1:04 remaining in regulation after goalie Michal Neuvirth was pulled for an extra attacker and Jakub Voracek scored for the Flyers 1:41 into overtime.Larkin called it a tough way to lose.Especially in this building, where historically we havent been successful in the past however many years, he said. The Red Wings last won in Philadelphia in Game 2 of the 1997 Stanley Cup Final and last won in the regular season there on June 25, 1997 (0-11-1).Without six veteran players, the Jets rallied from a 3-0 deficit to tie the game in the third period and send it to overtime against the Capitals on Thursday night.Veteran right winger Chris Thorburn took a family day and the team was already without injurred forwards Bryan Little, Drew Stafford and Shawn Matthias and defensemen Tyler Myers and Mark Stuart.dddddddddddd.Winnipeg defenseman Tobias Enstrom made it 3-1 with his shorthanded goal at 2:11 into the third period. It was Enstroms first goal in 22 games, dating to Feb. 25.Center Adam Lowry scored at 5:23 of the third to make it 3-2 off a setup from defenseman Dustin Byfuglien. Mark Dano tied the game at 3-3, 8:49 into the third period.Alex Ovechkins power-play goal 3:21 into overtime won it for Washington. It was Ovechkins second goal of the game.Weve got a resilient group, a young group of guys that maybe dont know any better, that we shouldnt be doing this every night, center Blake Wheeler said. But man, we did in the first game of the season and weve continued to do it. ... Its a pretty amazing feeling coming in the room after two periods being down 3-0 and knowing youve still got a shot to the hockey game.It will most likely be the last game that Jets coach Paul Maurice will coach at Joe Louis Arena.Maurice began his coaching career at the arena in the early 90s when he was an assistant coach and then the head coach and general manager in the major junior Ontario Hockey League with the Detroit Jr. Red Wings who are now the Flint Firebirds. It was also a homecoming for Winnipeg center Andrew Copp, who is from Ann Arbor, played youth hockey in the metropolitan Detroit area and played at the University of Michigan.
